The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) is pleased to present its newly elected Executive Committee following the conclusion of its 59th Annual Delegates Conference, held from September 20–21, 2026.
The Executive Committee comprises the following titular positions:
- President: Monique James-Roberts
- 1st Vice President: Kem Riley
- 2nd Vice President: Blair Rose
- General Secretary: David Massiah
- Treasurer: Anthonette Samuel
- Trustees: Fernando Samuel, Eugene Hurst and Chenise Lewis
New ABWU Executive Committee
The Executive Committee will also include a floor-member from each of the Union’s ten sections: Aviation and Airlines; Administrative and Clerical; Banking and Insurance; Commerce and Retail; Distribution and Manufacturing; Hotels, Restaurants and Catering; Telecommunications; Transport; Utilities and General Workers. The President of the Youth Arm and the Chair of the Women’s Council will also sit on the Executive Committee.
Speaking at the conclusion of the Conference, newly elected President, Monique James-Roberts, pledged to serve the Union’s membership with dedication and determination.
“With the support of my Executive, we intend to make significant progress in achieving fairer conditions of work and expanded protections for workers,” Roberts said.

Roberts has served on the ABWU Executive for the past six years and has held the position of 2nd Vice President for the last two terms. Her election makes her the second woman to serve as President of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union.
ABWU General Secretary David Massiah congratulated Roberts on her election and reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to advancing gender parity within its leadership.
Massiah also challenged the newly elected Executive Committee to prepare for the responsibilities ahead as the Union enters a significant period in its history.
“As we look toward our 60th Anniversary, this organisation must become more responsive to the changes taking place in the world of work” Massiah said. “We have to ensure that the wellbeing of workers is always a priority.”
The 59th Annual Delegates Conference brought together nearly 200 delegates and observers from across the Union’s membership to reflect on the ABWU’s achievements, consider the challenges facing workers, and chart the organisation’s direction for the future.
The Conference was held under the theme: “Celebrating 59 Years of Stewardship: Embracing the Changes and Preparing for the Future World of Work.”
