Workers in the Banks and Insurance Section of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) engaged in meaningful discussions last week, exploring ways to improve working conditions and enhance overall employee well-being

A major concern raised was the disparity in salaries across institutions within the banking and insurance sectors. Union officials have committed to addressing these gaps, with a focus on achieving better alignment during upcoming negotiations.
The discussions also highlighted inconsistencies in vacation and sick leave entitlements between workplaces—an issue the Union says will require greater harmonisation moving forward.
ABWU President, Kem Riley, is encouraging members to continue raising their concerns through shop stewards. He emphasized the importance of section meetings as a vital platform for feedback and the development of proposals that directly reflect the needs of workers.
