Veteran Jamaican trade unionist, Senator Kavan A. Gayle, C.D., is set to deliver the feature address at the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union’s (ABWU) 59th Annual Delegates Conference on Sunday.
Gayle brings more than three decades of experience in the trade union movement and is widely recognised for his technical knowledge and strategic leadership in representing workers, particularly within the services sector.

Since November 2007, Senator Gayle has served as President-General of the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU), Jamaica’s largest trade union. He also serves as a Government Senator in the Jamaican Parliament.
His areas of expertise include industrial relations and trade unionism, executive leadership, negotiation and arbitration, performance management and productivity, government and legislative affairs, and business ethics.
Senator Gayle currently serves as a Regional Executive Member of Union Network International (UNI) and sits on the World Executive of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), two global trade union federations.
The ABWU’s 59th Annual Delegates Conference is being held under the theme, “Celebrating 59 Years of Stewardship: Embracing the Changes and Preparing for the Future World of Work.” The two-day conference will bring together delegates and observers to reflect on the organisation’s progress while examining the changes shaping the workplace and labour movement.
