The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) is participating in key regional trade union consultations taking place in Trinidad and Tobago as Public Services International (PSI) hosts its 2026 Sub-regional Advisory Women’s Committee (SUBWOC) and Sub-regional Advisory Committee (SUBRAC) meetings.
The constitutional meetings, being held from September 2–4, bring together representatives of PSI-affiliated trade unions from across the sub-region to examine issues affecting workers and discuss priorities for the trade union movement.
Representing the ABWU at the meetings are President Kem Riley and Shawnella Jarvis, Shop Steward at the Transport Board. Karis George, General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association (ABPSA), is also participating in the meetings.
SUBWOC and SUBRAC serve as advisory bodies that provide guidance to PSI’s Regional Executive Committees (RECs) on the concerns and priorities of affiliates within their respective sub-regions. The consultations also form an important part of the process through which recommendations and decisions are developed for consideration by PSI’s Executive Board.
The ABWU’s participation provides an opportunity for the Union to contribute to regional discussions on issues affecting workers, while strengthening collaboration and solidarity among trade unions across the Caribbean.
The meetings also underscore the importance of regional trade union cooperation in ensuring that the concerns of workers are reflected in policy discussions and decision-making at the regional and international levels.
