Close to 200 young workers will converge on Freedom Hall as the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) hosts Youth Congress 2026 on November 10.

Under the theme “Lead the Change: Empowering Youth to Shape the Future of Work,” the congress will challenge young workers to become engaged stakeholders in shaping the future of work while creating opportunities for networking, collaboration and knowledge-sharing within and across sectors.

The event forms part of the Union’s ongoing commitment to empowering young members, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the changing world of work, and encouraging greater participation in trade unionism and labour relations.

President of the ABWU Youth Arm, Blair Rose, said young workers have a significant opportunity and responsibility to influence the future of work.

“As the youngest demographic in the current workforce, and with the increase in the retirement age, we are the generation that will likely work the longest. As such, it is in our best interest to take an active role in shaping the future of work,” Rose said.

The Youth President added that with workplaces continuing to evolve through technological advancements, changing employment practices and new demands for skills, it is increasingly important for young workers to understand the issues affecting them and participate in conversations about the future of employment.

Rose promises a dynamic line up of speakers, which will be announced in the coming days.

“Our guest speakers are individuals who didn’t wait for things to happen for them; they took charge of their future,” Rose noted.

Through the congress, the ABWU aims to develop emerging leaders and ensure that the perspectives and concerns of younger members are represented in discussions about workers’ rights, employment opportunities and workplace development.
