Hundreds of workers employed at Special Security Services Ltd — the largest security firm on Antigua — are benefiting from the provisions of the latest Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Company and the Antigua & Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU).
Both parties recently signed off on the Agreement following a protracted negotiating period due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

ABWU President and Senior Industrial Relations Officer, Kem Riley, said that the agreement secured important benefits and privileges for the workers. He added that the Agreement is particularly necessary as vulnerable groups such as migrant workers often find employment in the security sector.
General Manager – Special Security Services, Carla Purcell, described the negotiations as fair. She said both the Company and the Union had fostered a productive relationship built on trust and understanding. Purcell added that the Company has consistently embraced Unionism. She noted that it was the company’s Managing Director who made an unusual decision to invite the Union to organize the workers many years ago.

The new Agreement provides an incremental wage increase over a three-year period, along with increases to some allowances. Special Security Services also joins a growing list of workplaces that extend a Paternity Leave Benefit to workers.
The Collective Bargaining Agreement covers the period January 1 2022 - December 31 2024.
