The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) has embarked on an initiative to boost worker solidarity through social engagement.
Beginning this Friday, the Union will host a weekly after-work lime at its headquarters on Lower Newgate Street. The event will feature musical entertainment, specials on food and drinks in a vibrant atmosphere designed to help workers unwind at the end of the week.
ABWU President Kem Riley believes that this event will also serve as an important networking opportunity for workers.
“When our members get together in settings like these, they are able to forge relationships that could expand opportunities available to them,” Riley said. “Furthermore, workers can identify shared struggles, propose solutions and build camaraderie just over casual conversations.”
The weekly event, dubbed "Clock Out and Tun Up," is being held in partnership with Carib Beer and A.S. Brydens Antigua. The Union’s very own Blue Gardens Snackette is also a proud sponsor, providing meal specials throughout the evening.
Riley emphasised the inclusive nature of the event:
“Whether you’re a senior supervisor or the youngest member on staff, we invite you to spend the evening with us. Bring your dominoes if you like, or just enjoy the music and conversation.”
The event will also spotlight union talent, as the ABWU is committed to featuring weekly guest DJs selected from among its membership.
The after-work lime kicks off at 5 PM this Friday and will feature live guest DJs —DJ JAG and DJ ACE — serving up the best in soca, dancehall, and afrobeats.
