ABWU’s Largest Section Rallies for Greater Solidarity

Published On: Jul 30, 2025

Members of the Hospitality Section of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) recently came together to strategise on improving workplace experiences and strengthening unity within the section. In attendance were more than 30 workers from across several properties.

ABWU Deputy General Secretary, Chester Hughes, used the opportunity to reinforce the importance of knowing and defending workers’ rights. He reminded members of their entitlement to holiday pay, especially in cases where a scheduled day off falls on a public holiday.

In addition to labour rights discussions, the meeting explored the introduction of social activities and friendly competitions to enhance teamwork and camaraderie within the section.

Hospitality Section Secretary, Orenta Chandler, is encouraged by the participation and anticipates more robust engagement in the future.

As the largest of the Union’s ten sections, the Hospitality Section accounts for over 60 per cent of ABWU’s total membership, making it a vital force in the organisation’s advocacy efforts.
