Over 200 Young Workers to Participate in ABWU Youth Congress 2025

Published On: Jul 21, 2025

The Antigua & Barbuda Workers' Union (ABWU) is gearing up to welcome over two hundred young workers to its annual Youth Congress, scheduled for 20 August 2025. This year’s event is being held under the theme: “Adaptability to Ensure Sustainability: Encouraging Entrepreneurship in Youth.”

President of the ABWU Youth Arm, Blair Rose, promises an unforgettable and empowering experience, designed to reflect the evolving realities facing young workers.

“We’re living in a time of unprecedented change that’s reshaping the world of work at a rapid pace,” Rose explained. “Our ability to adapt through retooling, education and training, will be essential to our survival. But beyond that, we must embrace entrepreneurship as a viable and necessary path to long-term socio-economic wellbeing.”

The Youth Congress aims to amplify the voices of young workers and strengthen their role within the labour movement.

“Young workers are not just on the sidelines; we are active, critical participants in the workplace,” Rose continued. “Where we may lack experience, we often make up for it with strong academic qualifications, fresh ideas, and the ability to learn quickly.”

As preparations intensify for Youth Congress 2025, the Executive of the ABWU Youth Arm recently convened to assess its ongoing work and reaffirm its commitment to youth empowerment.

Rose is encouraging all young workers across Antigua and Barbuda to get involved and take charge of their collective future.

“We are the generation that will likely work longer than any before us. That’s why we must help shape the kind of workplace we want to be part of — one that excites us and brings out our best. That work starts now.”
